EP 285: Runningandyoga’s Recovery Story
Host: Viv aka Sober_iThrive
Guest: Runningandyoga
Runningandyoga sat down with Viv to tell her amazing Recovery Story!
Runningandyoga grew up in East Germany with the understanding that she would never be able to travel the world, choose her professional career, or speak her thoughts freely. Yet, in November 1989, when she was 12 years old, everything changed overnight. The Berlin Wall came down, and with that, her country dissolved. Simultaneously, her parents divorced, she faced unwanted changes in her body (puberty), and nobody knew what to teach in school or who should teach it. Longing for stability in her life, she started controlling her food and weight. Later she discovered alcohol as a way to cope with anxiety, depression, and everything else. After failed attempts to moderate her alcohol consumption, she fearfully and begrudgingly tried sobriety in January 2022. She is forever grateful that she found community and support in the I Am Sober online community.
